Hi all
Hi. Do you have a tulpa question?
Avatar
Hello! I’m interested in starting to create a tulpa, but I’m a bit concerned about some things, and have a few questions. -How can I be sure the tulpa wants to be formed? I don’t want to bring it into existence if it doesn’t want it -A tulpa can’t possess you without you allowing it to, correct? -Is there any sort of ritual or something you can do to help you focus, or do you just… have to do it? Not that I’m expecting to perform magic, but just to structure it so it feels more concrete -There’s a lot of guides on the site; what are the must reads? -Finally, is it ethical to create a tulpa if you’re depressed? I’m worried that the relationship I have with my tulpa will suffer because of it, and if it really is a partition in my mind, I don’t want that to happen.

1) A tulpa doesn't want anything initially. Then, their early expectations and behaviours will be based on what you expect them to be like. Only once they've really had a chance to test themselves against the world will they really behave completely like a person does. 2) Yes; with the caveat that if you believe they can, they can. But this paradoxically requires you to essentially give them permission on an unconscious level. 3) There's a number of rituals and the like that might help you focus or give yourself a strong immediate response through suggestion. But these things are often reliant on personal symbolism like hypnosis - I think the best way to find these is to feel them out for yourself. I would suggest avoiding being too analytical and being being passively acceptant during the process as that makes these things work better. 4) I'd suggest giving a cursory scan to most of them to get a general idea of how it's done, but I'd not focus too heavily on one guide. Many of them have outdated information or rely on the particular style of that person. Heavy meditative styles don't work for everyone for instance. Some people don't do ritualistic/symbolic practices. Be aware that tulpamancy as a general rule is a subjective rather than objective practice. (edited)

5) It's possible to essentially seperate a tulpa from depressive thoughts as long as they never switch with you I'd note, because there will always be the sense they're an outsider looking in - But eventually if they end up in the driver's seat at some point (and generally I would suggest doing that with time) they will not be able to escape depression for as long as you have it. That said, I don't think it's unethical - Depression is not dangerous to mix with tulpamancy as far as I've observed, but you should understand it will neither cure you nor cure them. Overall the quality of your life may increase as a brain, though, as you'll be gaining the ability to flip between two different perspectives and possibly sidestep negative perspectives.

1. Before the tulpa exists, they aren't capable of wanting or not wanting anything. And most likely they'll be happy they were created. 2. This can be difficult but it's definitely not impossible for a developed tulpa. But if you're worried about a tulpa doing this for malicious purposes, don't be. That doesn't really happen. 3. Look through various guides, posts, etc. to see the "rituals" others have used for focus, forcing, etc. and then either follow one that looks like it would work for you, or craft your own method based on what you've learned. I recommend a short meditation session before active forcing to "get you in the zone." But you don't need this, forcing is as simple as just talking to your tulpa and asserting to yourself "My tulpa is here and listening to me." Just remember that all of these "rituals" are optional and are never required, don't overcomplicate tulpamancy too much. 4. Just read any that look useful/interesting. A guide that most people love might be one that you dislike, and a guide that most people dislike might be one you love, so don't just go by what others say. Read more than just one or two for the sake of a wider perspective. Look at both approved guides and guides sitting in submissions, don't automatically assume a guide is better just because it's in the approved section. (IMO there are some great guides that have not been approved by the GAT.) 5. Honestly, the majority of people in tulpa communities have at least one condition of some kind, and depression is one of the most common. Your tulpa is likely to experience the effects of your depression to some degree, but they may not necessarily be affected exactly the same way as you are. And they might experience it to a much lesser degree. I do not think it is unethical to create a tulpa if you have depression. Also - it's not guaranteed to happen, but many tulpas actually help mitigate mental conditions.

I'd say 9/10 tulpamancers never meditated more than a couple hours
how long is 'a couple' hours? because we have all the time in the world right now ...

Two hours would be my guess.

ADHD is a bitch. i was not joking when i say i have ASD, and i have ADHD too. guess that means my tulpa does also. ADHD can just play havoc on a wonderland or certain focus exercises

yeah, related to my ASD i often suffer from temporary mutism. and i was suffering from it the week i created my tulpa... so ithink that contributed to her struggling with it perhaps. i don't want to call her stupid, she's not. it's just like being an alien and trying to talk in a foreign language even though she understands it perfectly, she can't always talk in it clearly enough to be understood using words alone

we used to have almost complete aphantasia and doing those visualization exercises called 'image streaming' brought our phantasia very high

I don't even have a "mind voice" if that's what you want to call it; when I think in my head it's just thoughts/concepts, not my voice saying stuff in my head

I tried that about 4 years ago without any positive results

we never had an internal MV or were able to hear sounds and different voices in the head until i started tulpamancing. now we can do things like compose music, do/hear different voices, etc

For the longest time I thought they were all full of it

Huh, that'd be nice

I compose music and it's a pain in the ass, I have to play notes out loud on a keyboard to hear what it's going to sound like

it's helped us a lot, but everyone's brain learns things differently. i just wanted to point out many people w total or near total aphantasia (our phantasia was very low) can improve and begin to see something if they find the right technique for them

idk, we started out without a "mind ear" but now we can hear and play sounds at will. we don't know how we acquired this ability other than it was relating to tulpamancy (didnt use any kind of guide or video, it just happened)

Well thats very intressting

yeah. just to give you a timeline. i think we had no 'mind ear' for at least 1-1.5 years after my tulpa came to be
Avatar
I'll have in mind what I want to get, and she'll either snap my attention to another drink or my hand will twitch when I'm reaching for one, in the direction of another (edited)
Avatar
then i had a very bad traumatic event happen to me, where i blocked out talking to my tulpa for a month because...i don't really want to talk about it. she understands why i did it and she doesnt care since her sense of time was not the same as mine. after this when i started talking to her again was when we realized we had a mind ear. it could be related to my schizo-affectivity too.

yeah when my tulpa possesses me but im cocon (i cant switch out yet, dunno about ever) i feel all these impulses in where to move our hands and such that can easily turn into them moving autonomously

at first she could only twitch my hands a bit...and i had a headstart because i used to play around with things like ouija and ghost writing (i dont believe in the supernatural btw, i just love playing with it) and channeling "temporary voices" so i think my brain had some of the wiring for our hands set up already ready to be possessed

it's quite common for operations to affect the brain in strange ways even if they're not in that area
6:56 PM
also, i've had days in the past where my tulpa couldnt be found or was gone
6:56 PM
i found over time these almost never happen any more-- i think it has something to do with her self actualization

my tulpa doesnt have a consistent MV. she tends to use "whatever voice is most available to me" (her words)
6:58 PM
by that she means whatever voice is floating around in that right hand flow zone ... so for example if we watched a movie recently, she might use one of the actors voices, because it's somewhere in the subconscious (edited)

maybe Jack was doing something like my tulpa?

Maybe let's continue discussing "why you shouldn't accept new headmates by default" here? (edited)
Avatar
I think he somewhat interjected at the moment the conversation was kind of explored. Unless you have more to add? (edited)
Avatar
Deleted User 9/16/2021 3:09 PM
I think the basic problem is that for people accepting a new headmate isn't a rational decision but an emotional one. What matters is if you get attached to them or not. And for some people it might be easy to attach themselves but equally easy to lose their bond in the short time.
Avatar
Also, some just want more headmates
Avatar
Deleted User 9/16/2021 3:11 PM
I think the problem lies also with the assumption that once you accept new headmate, it's your headmate forever. That you need to commit to having them for the rest of your life.
3:11 PM
The idea was very common in the early community.
Avatar
That view is very common now too
Avatar
Deleted User 9/16/2021 3:12 PM
Wanting/Decision to have more headmates is a reason to have a headmate

I don't think that view is inherently bad, but I temper it with the same temperance I give to a romantic relationship. Yes I'm entering this for life. Yes every single time. But no I wont stay around if it turns out not to work or something is lost that I cannot retrieve again.
